Hey Everyone! Welcome back to the blog! It has been a while since i posted anything here, but 2019 was insane! But I am back in 2020 ready to take on the year!
I wanted to start the new year by telling you this awesome, easy, and really cute cake and cupcakes to jazz up any holiday party!
I come up with this idea of a "Christmas Tree Farm" from Taylor Swift's new Christmas single. If you have not heard it, go listen NOW and come back, it is so good!
I have always had a fake tree, so I don't know what it is like to go out and pick that perfect tree at a farm, but I do know a little bit about how to portray that feeling in a cake.
I wanted to show you that it is actually super easy to make this cake/cupcake combo! So let's get started:
Once you have made your crumb coat and it has chilled in the fridge, it is time to to frost your cake. I personally did not try to make the most PERFECTLY smooth cake sides, because you will be adding textures later so do not spend too much time trying to make your background layer perfect.
I chose pink because I had the most perfect sprinkles from NeonYolk that I have been dying to use for a year, so I went with a pink/green theme. You do not have to make your background pink, make it whatever color you want! Remember, making cakes is about taste and having fun, not perfection.
Once you have your background layer done, it is time to you start making trees!
The trees in the back were SUPER easy to make! Take some parchment paper, fold it in half, and make your tree shapes. Make sure your cake is VERY cold, and stick the parchment paper to the cake, and just use a scraper to put some green frosting on the shape. Do a couple around the cake, then put your cake in the fridge for about 20-30 minutes, and repeat until you have made enough trees that you feel the cake looks good. It is completely up to you how many trees you make!
I used multiple decorating tips to add texture, but if you do not have any tips you can definitely keep adding layers of flat trees!
For the cupcakes, you will need the different tips though. I used 3 star tips of various sizes to create my little trees on top of my cupcakes.
To make the snow bottom for your trees, you can use a couple of different things, you can make just whjite frosting and frost the cupcake with a spatula, you can add shredded coconut to give that snowy texture, or you can use sprinkles! I used snowflake sprinkles because that is what I had on hand, but white jimmies or white nonpariels to get the same affect.
It is that easy! To make the cupcakes and cake cohesive, I used the same color greens on the cupcakes as I did for the cakes, so make sure you make enough! I tripled my frosting recipe to make this much dessert.
I hope you enjoyed this post, if you make something similar to this I would love to see how it came out! Tag my instagram, livingthebuttercream so I can see it!
As always I hope you live your buttercream dreams!
